Chandler Nguyen Mar 15 2012
This is my first blog post on idm.vn.
For many of my previous blog posts about Search Engine market share, please refer to "Search Engine Market Share by country Mar 2011"
1. Search Engine Market share in US
According to latest news from comScore, Google has 66.4% of the market share, followed by Microsoft sites with 15.2% and Yahoo! sites with 14.1%.
If we look at the same figure for one year ago, we can see that Yahoo! and Microsoft switched places.
| Properties | 2011 | 2012 | % change |
| Google sites | 65.5% | 66.4% | 0.9% |
| Microsoft sites | 14.1% | 15.2% | 1.1% |
| Yahoo sites | 15.9% | 14.1% | 1.8% |
| Ask Network | 2.9% | 3% | 0.1% |
Google and Microsoft gained from Yahoo's losing market share. From search query volume standpoint, we saw an increase of 13.8% from 15,445 MM searches done in Feb 2011 to 17,588 MM in Feb 2012.
2. Search engine market share in UK
Google commands close to 91% of the market share in the UK according to Hitwise.
Microsoft Bing and Yahoo are virtually negligible. This makes the whole Search engine marketing industry in the UK literally means "Google marketing".

Hitwise also produced a reasonable looking Search Infographic for the UK. It showed that search traffic accounted for as much as 35% of site traffic on average in the UK. In addition, search behavior of people in the UK indicate that about 50% of people searching for keywords which have at least 3 words. This is quite different from places like Vietnam for example.
3. Search Engine Market Share China
There is little change in terms of market share after Google pulled out of the country. Google share lowered to about 18%. In the mean time, Baidu maintained close to 80% of the market share.
Baidu set up international sales office in Singapore in 2011 to serve International clients who want to advertise in China.
4. Search Engine Market Share in Japan
The situation in Japan doesn't seem to change much compared to Mar 2011. Or at least i haven't found official data that says otherwise.
It's still a duo market with Google and Yahoo command the majority of the share.
5. Search market share in Hong Kong
There have been some major development in Hong Kong compared to 1 year ago. Google.com and Google.com.hk now enjoy the top two spots, followed by Yahoo.

Mar 2011, Yahoo! Hong Kong Search used to have 25.42% share of visits to search engines. Google Hong Kong used to have higher share compared to Google.com as well. It's a bit tricky interpreting Hitwise data at granular level. However, the split between search engines seem correct.
6. Search Engine Market Share in Singapore
Google now claims close to 90% of the market share. Yahoo lost from both market share point of view and revenue point of view in Singapore for certain.

One year ago, Google had 86% of the market share. Little has changed in on year.
7. Search engine market share in Brazil
According to data from Experian Hitwise, Google has about 93% share of the market, followed by Bing with 3%. Yahoo is no where to be seen.

8. Search Engine Market Share in India
There is little changed in terms of market share since my last post. Google is still the clear leader with no worthy contender in sight for the near future.
9. Search engine market share in Canada
The situation in Canada has changed quite a bit. Google.ca dropped from 77% per cent one year earlier to 67.8%. Bing moved from 8.6% to 16.38%.

Ask.com nearly doubles its market share compared to 1 year ago as well, from 3.48% to 5.47%
That should be all from me for today. Feel free to drop any comments/questions.
